Audience to Community
Turning followers into advocates - without faking the intimacy.
Every brand wants 'community' on the deck. Almost none of them have one. The difference isn't size or engagement rate - it's whether your absence would be noticed.
Three thresholds
Recognition (they know your name). Belonging (they identify with the people who like you). Defence (they'll argue for you when you're not in the room). Most brands stop at one and call it loyalty.
How to cross them
Build artefacts the community can use - language, rituals, in-jokes, status markers. The brand stops being the speaker and starts being the stage.
An audience watches you. A community watches each other because of you.
